LIGHTWORKS: Ang Pilipinang di Ako

Lightworks is the title of the blog of a friend of mine who makes it a point to write a post everyday. So far, save for a few days at Christmastime which she spent with her daughter, she had been succeeding. Vitti opened her Filipina series with this poem about the falsity of representation of the Filipina by those women living in EDSA's billboards. Please click on the title of this post to read the entire poem.

Reclaiming the Filipina Image in the Net

There is an active campaign now to reclaim the Filipina image online. As I googled Filipina at 10:06AM, I saw the campaign site ranked third after Wikipedia and to a dating site. The several sites which followed were of online dating and photos of Filipinas in various scantily clad poses, all aimed at the libido. You can see this on the screen shot where the campaign site is the one marked in red. (Please click on the image for a larger view)

Let us push for elevating the Filipina to more relevant categories other than online dating sites to search engines. I personally do not believe the campaign is pointed against those who frequent these online dating sites but for a restructuring of the Filipina image as more than a dating site.

Join the campaign NOW if you believe in the capacity of the Filipina to be more than just a fodder for dating.

CRaZy and Sweet Forwards

I have not posted at my Crazy Forwards blog and Sweet Forwards blog for sometime now. Not that I am in dearth of materials because I still receive a lot of such forwards, but because I am not too happy with the way I am doing the blog. I am in search of that zing which will make it more than just another listing of forwards. Care to suggest your idea?

Lindenmarie @ Stumble Upon

My penchant for seeking new knowledge found fulfillment with the social media network Stumble Upon. As its name connotes, one will stumble upon information through the network. I found my time spent there gratifying because I get to read about various topics of interest to me or of which I feel passionately about, appreciate photos which are surreal, photoshopped, real, starkly black and white, and meet friends of various ages above 18, as they claim to be. I prefer the older guys because they do not only get back to my page but they also send me a message or two as friends should. I got to stumble upon some sites by Filipinos and I didn't hesitate to subscribe to their favorites even if their interests are not really similar to mine. I believe in promoting the Filipino.

I treat my SU page like a bookmark. When I remember something I came across, I just go to that page in my SU blog for update. SU, to my experience, is far much better than those I had at Clipmarks, SlideShare, Squidoo and Facebook because SU caters to my blogging needs on a wider scale quickly.

32 and Counting

32 and Counting has grown beautifully. That the egroup provides me a wide choice of topics to choose from is obviously a big help. Photos are also handy. I spent considerable part of my time there and the egroup in the last quarter of 2008, since daily influx of messages ran to a hundred and more. Like all good things, the high note crashed..............the message frequency petered out in December, what with people getting busy in preparation for the holiday frenzy.

2009 for 32 and Counting started in a solemn mood but recently perked up with the introduction of the caricatures..... more mirth to come, I hope!

To pause I must

My efforts at Lingig are currently challenged with dearth of information. Short of doing another survey myself, I have to wait for the mandated office to issue the official report. There is also the issue of ownership of the need and project. Is it them or is it I who want these projects to be pursued? Organizing basics, actually. It is time to pause first.
